Are you moving from/to Liverpool locally, nationally or internationally? Britannia Fleet Removals are here to help you in any way they can. You will see here a breakdown of the pros and cons of using a professional removal firm compared to moving yourself.
As we are all aware, moving is a stressful time, so much so that statistics state it is the second most stressful thing you can do in your lifetime, I won’t go into the first.
There are 3 main options open to you, which you can choose from, and here I will break them down for you.
• Moving Yourself
If you only have a few items and have regular access to a car, then it may be suitable for you to move yourself, however there is a “Tipping Point”, which is where you find you have too many belongings to be able to manage moving with a car. The only option is to get hold of a van and move yourself with that. If you are fortunate enough to work in a business which has access to vans and the boss will let you borrow one, then you will keep your cost relatively low, however if not, you will have to pay for the hire of a van.
Now you need to ask yourself a few questions:
1. When was the last time you did a hard day’s manual labour?
2. Do you think the people you are asking to help you will be fit enough to do the same?
3. Do you feel comfortable driving a large vehicle?
4. Are you confident that you can protect your goods for the journey?
If the answers to all of the above questions are positive, then it seems you should be able to move yourself and good luck to you.
• Hiring a Professional Removal Firm
If you answered negatively to any of the above questions, it may be worth looking in to hiring a professional removal firm. By doing this you will know your goods are protected, your day will be considerably less stressful and physically draining, and you can choose how much, or how little, you have to do on the day. The first thing you should do is ask friends and family whether they have used any good firms recently, then research yourself into testimonials of companies and whether they are registered with the B.A.R. It is recommended to get 3 like for like quotations, from 3 separate firms. Make sure you pick the firm you think will give you the greatest value add, don’t just choose the cheapest. You want your goods protected, but don’t want to be overcharged for a service.
• Somewhere in Between
There is a 3rd, less preferable option. You can hire the dreaded “man with van” company which will be cheaper than a B.A.R. registered firm, however you will find very little insurance, there will be little to no financial security and you will end up having to help out with the move yourself. It is very difficult to check the background of a “man with van” company, however if they have been highly recommended by reliable source, or they are close friends of yours, then this may be the best option for you.
